CIRCUSDUST - Dream

Australian music artist Altiyan Childs has had an extraordinary career history.

After being crowned the winner of the second season of The X Factor Australia in 2010, and subsequently signing with Sony Music Australia and having several hit records including a platinum album, the singer-songwriter has had his fair share of ups and downs. But he has returned, as alluring as ever, with a new band Circusdust.

Collaborating with two fellow high-calibre musicians Mars Marcos on drums and Dave Beaton on bass to form Circusdust, a powerfully engaging musical force. Merging all the finesse of superb musical acumen with emotionally charged melodic sensibilities the band’s new single Dream epitomises the essence of compelling indie rock, utilising Altiyan’s undeniable vocal skills to convey a song about the tenacity of the human spirit, with a lyric that blends vivid imagery with an unapologetic resolve.

The guitar-orientated track seamlessly blends a rock edge with impassioned performances and a lyric that is universal in its specificity, with such lines as, ‘Lonely on a broken highway I call you with the radio on / We’re laughing cause they’re playing our song, again’, the song explores a personal story and in doing so conjures the realms of a relationship with candid affection and vivid imagery.

‘The guitar-orientated track seamlessly blends a rock edge with impassioned performances and a lyric that is universal in its specificity,’

When asked what motivates his writing, Altiyan says, ‘Pain, loss, the love I have for people whether strangers/friends or enemies, my father’s difficult life, my mother’s sacrifices, wars, death, corruption, political subversiveness, the struggle to maintain innocence, the joy of a beautiful sunrise, dreams, visions, my dog, my wife, my God’.

That’s an all-encompassing reply but Dream is an all-encompassing kind of song. It’s raw yet has an emotional sheen about it that is persuasive and hooky, brilliantly evaluating harnessing the majesty and mystery of music, to probe what lies beneath and inside all of us.
