Cigarettes is the new track from emerging nineteen-year-old multi-cultural multi-instrumentalist Jelly Oshen.
The Cairns-based music artist has already generated over 200k streams and attracted a lot of media attention for his alt R&B, indie-pop style.
His latest track Cigarettes is the fifth single release for the singer-songwriter and will no doubt replicate the extraordinary responses to his previous releases which received extensive nationwide airplay and support from Triple J (Aus), Double J (Aus), 4ZZZ (Brisbane), Coast FM (Cairns), Triple R (Melbourne), Inner FM (Melbourne), 3CR (Melbourne), Hot FM (Mildura), RTR FM (Perth), Bay FM (Byron Bay), PBS FM (Melbourne) and 5GTR (Adelaide).
Cigarettes was produced by Stephen “DubKlaat” Maxwell and mixed by Tommy-John Herbert and penned by Jelly when he was sixteen. Beginning with subtle infusions of electronica blended to a bare-bones drum feel and dotted with fluctuating guitar textures, the song is brought to sharp focus by Jelly’s enthralling vocal, with its vulnerable cadences unveiling an intimacy and smooth dynamism.
There are numerous dips and drops throughout the track which highlight Jelly’s alluring voice, as well as the poignant lyric, with string lines hovering in the background creating a lush yet nonetheless apt soundtrack to the song’s sentiment.
