Rachael Coltrona - Complicated

A new light on the Australian pop scene is singer-songwriter Rachael Coltrona. The emerging star has just released her debut track, Complicated, which will undoubtedly fulfil the young musician’s dreams.

As Rachael has said, ‘I hope to connect with people through my music and lyrics, to laugh, cry, dream, or dance with it.

I want my music to be something that listeners don’t just pass over, more that it draws their attention, with a great sound, catchy lyrics, or a story they can relate to (even if just for a short moment, I hope my music gives them something to feel).’ The new track is an infectious blend of contemporary pop and dance-funk grooves with a lyric that taps into the maze of relational dynamics and communication barriers while displaying Coltrona’s impressive vocal prowess.

A former musical theatre performer and proud 2017 WAAPA alumna, Rachael has gracefully transitioned into the pop music landscape, bringing along her exquisite theatrical skills.

Among her notable achievements are a dazzling act in HAMA’s version of Legally Blonde at the renowned Crown in 2021 and her celestial soprano tones winning hearts at Joondalup Symphony Orchestra’s special Christmas Carol events. In Complicated, Rachael marries funk-inspired rhythms with a hint of 80s pop nostalgia, her lush, close-up vocals taking centre stage.

‘‘ The singer is poised to embark on an exciting new phase of her career, which is being propelled by the high-octane pop explosion of Complicated.

The lyrics delve into the convolutions of a ‘situationship’ (an undefined romantic or sexual relationship), a theme drawn from Rachael’s personal encounters with a non-committal individual. Rachael tells us, ‘The inspiration came from personal experience with someone who was flirting with the idea of keeping me around while not really committing to anything.

Kind of going nowhere fast but not wanting to accept it. Relationships are complicated after all!’ After Coltrona’s performance of John Madara and David White’s You Don't Own Me in late 2022 was met with critical acclaim, the singer is poised to embark on an exciting new phase of her career, which is being propelled by the high-octane pop explosion of Complicated.
