Nicholas Brown - Up & Coming

On his latest single, Up And Coming, Australian music artist Nicholas Brown pays a dazzling tribute to the indelible 80s, masterfully melding the electrifying vigour of Italo Disco and Hi-NRG dance music.

This striking concoction conjures a wave of nostalgia, ensnaring listeners with its ground-breaking fusion of disparate styles that shaped the musical tapestry of an era.

The versatile musician, actor, and singer-songwriter deftly taps into the spirit of legendary bands such as Dead or Alive and Bananarama, while also embracing the quirkiness of Frankie Goes to Hollywood.

Simultaneously channelling the essence of Wham, Giorgio Moroder, and Kylie Minogue’s unforgettable Stock/Aitken/Waterman collaborations, Up And Coming whisks audiences away to a bygone epoch of auditory euphoria.

As Brown articulately puts it, ‘Up And Coming is a song for frustrated ambitious people. It’s about striving for something greater than yourself and celebrating that journey rather than being overwhelmed by it.’ Co-penned with bandmate Justin Gagnon in North Hollywood during a period of career turmoil, Brown’s odyssey led him from portraying a Bollywood antagonist alongside Indian luminary Hrithik Roshan to a Wesley Snipes action flick, which was ultimately derailed by Snipes’ arrest.

‘‘ Up And Coming exudes an irresistible fusion of catchy hooks, genuine emotions, and unbridled zest, breathing new life into a revered musical epoch while anchored by an unreservedly passionate zeal.

Conflicting guidance from his manager concerning body image and achieving a ‘Hollywood-ready’ appearance only stoked Brown’s dissatisfaction, eventually giving birth to, Up And Coming. Although firmly anchored in the 80s, the production of Up And Coming deftly transcends its roots, addressing contemporary issues with unerring poignancy and pertinence.

Brown yearns for his audience to forge a connection with the evocative lyrics, allowing the music to provoke a metamorphic shift in their emotional landscape, ultimately inciting them to dance first and contemplate the underlying significance later.

Up And Coming exudes an irresistible fusion of catchy hooks, genuine emotions, and unbridled zest, breathing new life into a revered musical epoch while anchored by an unreservedly passionate zeal.
